Last month many marketers, and the public at large, learned a valuable lesson about both the impact and proliferation of online video because of the YouTube video posted by now-fired Domino's pizza employees.  The buzz created by this video and the subsequent corporate video apology are clear indicators that a compelling message, good or bad, can get incredible traction on the web and potentially affect even a national brand. And that brand was impacted on YouTube, not by ad placement on one of the hot new professional video sites.

The question is have you taken the steps to include online video and social media into your law firm's marketing plan?  With the power demonstrated by the Domino's debacle and other similar events, online video can no longer be seen as just a billboard on the information superhighway.

While the expectation may be that the largest share of new content will be high production value videos and TV content, Google sites led by YouTube, still account for the lion's share of videos viewed online, with nearly 6 billion videos viewed in a single month.  There is a transition from user-generated videos to professional content that is being influenced by the content being published by three of the TV networks that now are part of a partnership in Hulu, one of the most popular online video sites to feature full length TV programming.

Naturally, the informative high production value videos that we recommend producing for our personal injury law firm clients probably won't get 100 million hits in nine days like the video of Susan Boyle, the Britain's Got Talent phenom.  But they will help build your brand, boost traffic to your web site and provide an opportunity to grow your web presence before your firm has to cut through the increasing clutter that is to come.
